Nestled in the Hamlet of Hurst, Hall Farm Cottage is a walkers and bikers (both road and mountain) paradise. Cycling has a great place in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and played a key part in the Tour de France in 2014 passing through Reeth and Grinton. There are some famous hills to try your climbing skills such as Buttertubs Pass, but this is not for the faint hearted. We have the wonderful Dales Bike Centre on our doorstep in Grinton where you can hire bikes, make repairs, go on tours, or simply call in for a well earned coffee, sandwich and fabulous cake. There is also the Swaledale trail to try out your biking skills which is 20km and joins the two towns of Reeth and Keld.

For the walkers (2 and 4 legged) you can step out of the cottage straight onto the Moors and take various routes down to Reeth and Grinton, whilst the more adventurous can venture over to Booze, Calver Hill and Arkengarthdale. There will be lots of opportunities to take on board refreshments as there are many great hostelries and cafes along the way.

If you drive through to Leyburn there is also the famous Leyburn Shawl walk which gives you stunning views of Wensleydale and takes you through the Wensley Falls which is close to the White Rose candle shop and Three Horseshoes which provides a well earned rest and pit stop. As many experienced walkers will know, Reeth and Richmond are key points on the Wainwrights Coast to Coast walking route too.

The historic town of Richmond is also only a short drive away and has the wonderful attraction of the castle which you can visit and also take a walk around and see the stunning views over the river Swale. The Station is also a key focal point of the town with many independent shops including a cinema, swimming pool, bakeries, cafes, brewery and restaurants.

There are lots of other places to visit within this area which are a short drive away such as Masham, which is home to the BlackSheep brewery, and Hawes which is also home to the Wensleydale Creamery visitor centre - if you love cheese then this is well worth a visit. Bedale, for the adults, is home to the Masons Gin distillery and for the little ones is The Big Sheep & Little Cow farm where they can meet and greet lots of farmyard animals. Northallerton and Barnard Castle have lots to offer too with lots of individual shops. For those with a sweet tooth we have our very own chocolate factory and shop in Leyburn which produce high quality artisanal chocolate using only the fine ingredients which is ethically sourced. Another attraction within Leyburn is the Forbidden corner which is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises all contained within 4 acres. ideal for the adventurers and those young at heart.

If you are the attracted more to the elements then we have some stunning waterfalls and such as Aysgarth falls, which was made more famous in the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Kisdon, East Gill, Wain Wath, and one of the highest unbroken waterfalls in England Hardraw Force provide stunning views and some outdoor swimming.

If you are seeking more artistic and cultural visits then we have a few galleries such as Scenicview Gallery in Reeth and The Old School Muker Art Gallery and Craft Centre in Muker. For museums we have the Swaledale museum on our doorstep in Reeth, Hawes Ropemaker and Dales Countryside Museum.

If you are spending some time up here in the Dales and wish to go further afield then a drive to the East coast towns of Whitby and Scarborough or Saltburn are highly recommended. Some great beaches. Or alternatively hop onto the A66 and drive West to visit the Lake District.

Dalby forest is located approx 74 miles away and offers 13 walking trails, 6 cycling trails, 4 running trails, play areas and the Go Ape centre providing the tree top challenge, tree top adventure and forest Segway.
